We are stoked to get the 2021 season underway! Below we will detail some of the changes we made along with the addition of a new event. There were no major changes to rules, entry fees, or membership fees. However, please read through so you are aware of what’s coming.
The addition of members-at-large and a new director. We really want to thank these guys that stepped up to help the club and want to make sure everyone utilizes them. Ricky Valadez (Omaha area), Tyler Schafer (West region), and Brian Johnson (Southeast Region). They are in place so you have someone to bring up the needs in your area to the board. You can always come to the directors as well, but this is just another option to help facilitate good communication and visibility. In addition, these guys will be a great resource for getting club info. Also Brady Storrs is coming on as the newest director. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to having his fresh perspective and ideas on our team.
Burchard Invitational – The Burchard Invitational was an idea from a club member that everyone thought would be a great addition to our lineup. This will be a battle between our Top 6 anglers from AOY for the previous year, with one spot being guaranteed for the Rookie of the Year. If an angler can’t make it, we will only roll down to the anglers in the Top 10 for AOY. It will be a higher entry fee of $100 and winner takes all. We will continue to provide updates on this as we get closer and reach out to the anglers that have earned a spot. We can’t wait to watch this one go down!
Live Event Schedule – This is still tentative till we get the BASS schedule. We did have one change already and are switching Sherman to June 19th and Red Willow to July 17th. Sherman was chosen because we are currently in talks with the owner of Tradewinds and they are willing to put up $500+ worth of cash and prizes to bring us back. Not a bad deal!
Leagues – Couple changes here. Omaha and Lincoln will now have separate AOY’s, with a League Champion being crowned at the Wanahoo final. For big bass this year we will be doing a 50/50 split. Half of the fee will be paid for big bass that day and the other half will go into the pot for the angler that hits a 20” + fish. No bonus points this year for big bass, AOY for leagues will be calculated the standard way. Tuesday leagues will be run by Brian Johnson and Thursday Leagues will be run by Jareth (Lincoln) and Ricky (Omaha).
Rule changes – In 2021 we will continue to use the same format we did this year in regard to launching and lines in. You will be able to launch 30 minutes prior to lines in from any publicly accessible location. Also we will be approving the plastic ketch board for use in the 2021 season. Same rules will apply to that board as the Hawg Trough.
We have some other items/events in the works and also some new sponsors to 2021. We will provide more updates as we get closer to the season.
Thanks again to all the Sticks for your continued support and we are excited to head into our third season with the best group of kayak anglers in Nebraska!
